All In My HeadThe first time I meet Adela is on the first day of second grade – the loneliest day of my life.
While the others are out swinging on monkey-bars and slithering down static slides, I take refuge in a gnarly oak, whose hollows and knots are fitted perfectly to my slender and delicate body. I’m half-sleeping and half-daydreaming when a loud voice interrupts my solitude:
“What are you doing?”

My face is cold - and wet. I rub my eyes with the heels of my hands, and then open them.
Under the gloomy cloud cover of the East coast, I can see the generic brick building that I call All In My Head
